“The Earth is Art, The Photographer is only a Witness.” Yann Arthus-Bertrand

This week has been a remarkable and enjoyable exhibition experience. Being a photographer, and particularly an alpine artist is quite a solitary existence. Even when one hikes with friends, they often charge on ahead, as the words “I’m on my way – just taking a photograph” falls regularly from my lips.

An inspiring evening. Exhibitions for photographers are not the “icing on the cake” for our work, but occasionally they are pretty close! I am currently participating in the excellent Light & Land’s 30th Anniversary Exhibition, open this week at the Mall Galleries in London.

Monday’s Private View was marvellous, bringing just so much joy for participants and guests alike. This included an introduction by Light & Land’s Founder, Charlie Waite, celebrating the 30th anniversary. Then we were honoured by a speech by Ray Mears, to quote Light & Land “British woodsman, instructor, author and TV presenter, opened our exhibition by sharing his fascinating thoughts on photography”.

Visitors are being treated to the work of many talented landscape photographers, including a youth artist section. As an alpine artist, I don’t get many opportunities to meet up with such a lovely diverse groups of photographers, and the works shown are top class. The exhibition is free and on until Saturday 7 September 5pm. I feel honoured to be included in this event, and would love to see any of you there at the Light & Land 30th Anniversary Exhibition, Mall Galleries for a catch up and coffee (the mini-cafe serves great food).

Current website. I am delighted to update you on my revised website, assisted by the fantastic web designer Stephen Holdstock. I’ve known him and his organisation Heart Co for over 10 years, and with excellent collaborative partnership my site has moved forward in clarity, messaging and quality presentation. I am looking forward to sharing regularly on my photographic journey. My work is based on an awareness of the impact on society and communities of changing environmental conditions. Let’s share more on celebrating the art of this earth, for as Yann Arthus-Bertrand said “the Photographer is only a Witness”.

Great month all! I hope you see some of you at the exhibition, and you can always catch me at X @alpineclick and Instagram @fialpine.
